Found these beauties this afternoon next to a railway embankment, can anyone tell me what type they are, and how rare are they?

Looks like wild Orchis maculata,described as a dense spike of pale purple to lilac flowers with usually leaves spotted with dark purple whic are not visible in photo.

yes an orchid, not rare, but still beautiful its a heath spotted orchid, a fairly common sight in the New Forest.

I think it's a common spotted orchid, they are beautiful, did you see any painted lady butterflies on your walk? there were hundreds around 2 summers ago
