If it was say at Tesco Trish would shop and I'd take Max a quick walk or open up the windows and tail gate sit with him till she was done. I really hate to see dogs left in cars in this sort of weather people just don'tseem to realise how hot it gets even people who you'd think would know better, it was only a couple of years ago a police dog handler left his dogs in a van and they died
Some people think its ok to leave them with the windows open a few inches. ITS NOT! The inside of a car can get like an oven in a matter of minutes. As a dog has a higher temperature than a human to start with they overheat far quicker than we would. I would also remind people not to leave dogs tied up outside shops or supermarkets, as so many are going missing.
Clipping is not the answer unless its a breed that does not shed. Most breeds have a double coat and the action of the top and undercoat works to keep the dog cool in summer and warm in winter like a vacuum. Nothing worse than seeing a dog that should have a double coat shaved to within an inch of its life! I even saw a Cavalier that had been shaved the other day - if you can't look after a coat as easy as a Cavalier's you should not have a dog. A good brushing will remove any lose undercoat and let the air through. Even my GSD with his thick top coat and furry undercoat is cool underneath.
