Tv Series From 1970/1980S

Please could someone help me think of the name of the series that Joanna Lumley(I think it was) was in with a suave male English actor whose name I cannot remember. I think he was a private detective and she used to help him. She was always dressed a bit like gypsy and did palm readings which, if I remember correctly were a cover for her to fish a bit to help solve mysterys/crime. She may have lived on a canal boat but again I'm not sure. I would really like to find out the name of this series so a 'huge' thank you to anyone who can either help or suggest how I can find out.
