Another Tragic Dog Mauling

Firstly I cannot imagine the pain this young mother is going through so not the time to make judgemental comments about her but I have to ask, this huge dog supposedly came from an animal charity - who seemed content for it to go to a one bedroom flat, where dogs were not allowed anyway, with a young child in the home. I hope they are feeling ashamed this morning. Poor dog too, I really don't know what the answer is with these status dogs?

Did it definitely come from a charity, it seemed very sketchy when they were talking about it in the news this morning, even said she may have got it from the internet :(

I obviously lack the intelligence to understand what the benefits are of keeping a dog of that size and type.

I read it came from a rehoming centre but there hasn't been any comment from them so far as I have read. You have to ask what kind of organisation would allow a dog like this to go to a family with such a young child and the home can't have been properly vetted.

Dreadfully sad case .Like so many such cases nothing will be learnt from it. Does this come under the remit of the government .council or who .Its time something was done about it .

I have 2 bullmastiffs. I keep them because they are great pets and great looking dogs. If i was to give them up for some reason they would not go into a shelter, I would have them put down. My dogs are used to me, thinking they would go into a strange home (a flat) with young children is a terrible thought!
This french masstif that attck the girl should have been put to sleep, not given to a family with young children and no room to swing a cat!

It is sketchy where the dog came from but Ratty you are right, home was clearly not vetted. A dog like this needed experienced owners with plenty of free outside space and should never be re-homed with such young children IMO. A horrendous story all round.

Large breed dogs should be put down not rehomed, its not fair on both the dog and the family.

When we got our dog from Battersea they seemed to have a policy of not homing a dog with under 14's living there (think it was 14), we were able to have Yogi as he was only 11 weeks old and he was born there.

My cousin has two Bull Mastiffs....I would never allow them in my house.

I have being saying for years dog should wear a muzzle out in public and big dogs should be lessened

ummmm i would never left anyone else's dogs in my house either. Whats your point?

This happened indoors redvanman so a muzzle wouldn't have helped. Muzzles is a different matter, personally i feel sad for poodles and labs etc etc all strapped up in muzzles when out walking.

Why would you stated that though? Who cares if you would let a dog in your house are not.
Would you let a cat in......? Who cares!

yes, another tragedy, I have the most loving placid dog, but would never leave him unattended with a small child, they are animals however domesticated they are, but I am in no way judging this poor mother, we don't know all the facts. poor wee girl.

Apparently this dog had been mistreated in its previous home and maybe this little girl did something to him which made it think it was happening again.

I will not allow those type of dogs in my house. Any dogs to be honest....NOT WELCOME...

Mike I'm guessing she's making the valid point while we are discussing this topic that she won't allow big dogs (with potentially aggressive tendencies) in her house as she has children. It's about people's duty of care to their family.
