and particularly Cetti who is a walking encyclopaedia on natural history!

Yep I agree & big round of applause for Cetti.  She seems pretty good on the food section too - I bet she's got a huge hamper to take bird-watching!!

I always look here first. Then I dodge off to quzzes and Puzzles.I can spend ages on this section chattering on about my dog and wildlife!!
Question Author
I avoid the Food section, Robinia.  It gives me too many ideas and I might rush off to the kitchen and eat.  Not all of us have slim young figures ;o)
also always come to this one first- and then play in the quizzes and puzzles. Always dissapointed when there is not a good wildlife thread going on here to get the teeth into.

sixthed!!

it also restores my faith in human nature to read the postings of such a lovely bunch of animal lovers

HI FP, I like to come on here first,  I try to help if I can, but I also like reading the threads and answers, its true you learn alot from other people answers.  Some ofthe threads stick my mind especially if its tragic, I hate to read about any animal being abandoned, hurt or killed, it up-sets me, thats why I will never watch wild life programms.      :-)

Hi Cat woman.  I can watch nature programmes if animals are killed in a natural way, i.e. Lion killing wilderbeast, etc.  What I cannot bear is hearing or seeing anything about any cruelty or horrible accidents to animals.  I am tougher than I used to be because I have volunteered in an animal rescue home and have seen some sad cases.

I do enjoy the chats with all the nature and animal lovers in this section and feel I have made some good online friends!

Bless you darlings for your kind words :-)

This is without doubt the first port of call. There is just so much to learn from everyone and it's an absolute joy being with like-minded people, although some poster's do make you wonder what planet they inhabit.

I did something really dreadful yesterday and feel so ashamed .....No, I can't tell you..

Question Author
Oh Cetti, please tell.  Was it that bad?

Cetti, don't leave us in suspenders you obviously need to get it off your chest....did you mow over a frog?  Or find a dead mouse in a bucket of water - I've put sticks in all my water reserves.  We won't send you to Coventry...honest :-)

I also go to this section first too & would agree Cetti always seems to have the right answers. There's a great camaraderie on here!

So come on Cetti spill the beans!

Ok girls, are you sitting comfortably.....? I warn you it's a sorry tale.

A couple of days ago  I walked into the living room, glanced up at the ceiling and saw a large thing waving even larger antennae at me. All of a sudden it jumped down on the carpet in front of me (you surely must have heard my screams!) making me run out of the room. Peering round the door I spied the thing back on the ceiling again. (more screams) There was no choiceso  I emptied half a can of fly killer on my tormentor.  It was still alive hours later when hubby came home who picked it up and put it on the windowsill for identification. I had tried to murder an Oak Bush-cricket!  I apologised profusely to it and hubby said it needed air (I thought he meant the kiss of life at first) so placed it gently outside an hour later it was gone.

                               Aaaaggghhh!!!

Cetti I think I might have been freaked out by that too!  We've all been startled by some monster I'm sure & then realised it was harmless.  At least I can stop imagining a shredded frog or worse.  I came so close to mowing over one once - I'd have been mortified.

smudge that's not life size!! (I hope)

Please note ladies - our Natural History expert is a Fly murderer!!

How naughty!! I shall have to find up my black cap again !!
I have been bombarded by bees today.I think because it's turned cooler they are looking for somewhere warm. They bumble in the back door and then bumble round the sunroom and get stuck up in the window .I can't reach the window so have to get a broom and open the handle and push the window up so they can bumble out again.Daft things!!
Question Author

Well, Cetti, I was expecting a lot worse.  We get lots of those crickets and they always make me jump. At least your cricket survived his ordeal.

However, the worse thing is the occasional bat in our bedroom!  They are beautiful creatures and I should hate to harm one, but they freak me out when they come indoors.

Question Author
I love bumble bees Shaneystar, but I agree that they are daft.  (I see we have the same good taste in menfolk as well ;o) !)
What freaks me out are those cockchafers.Funny name but there you go! We have had loads them of this year.I'm sure that's what they are.I found one on the rug by the bed the other night and then...when I got into bed one dropped down from it's hiding place on the ceiling somewhere and landed beside me! I can't kill them though. I run (well..hobble) about with a glass and a bit of paper and then chuck them out of the window! My husband thinks I'm nuts.
