Are There Any Real Life 'sherlocks' In The World ...?
4 Answers
obviously i know hes not real and his 'abilities' are obviously just very convenient for stories etc
but,do people with these kind of 'skills', or similar, exist in real life?
i realise, all detectives have abilities in the art of deduction, with normal consideration over time, but is there any evidence of people who behave more like cumberbatch etc - superfast, very observant, vast knowledge, mind palaces etc etc?
i know some would say 'rain man' is the most similar in thought processes but i mean someone high functioning, who works, and maybe even assists the police in some part of the world .
thanks

well the super-recognizers are people with good memories
possibly because they have trained themselves consciously or unconsciously
they re the one with the old-style eidetic memories which turned out to be just good and not eidetic.
the real life Sherlock was based on Dr Bell one of Conan Doyle's teachers at Med School, Edinburgh was really was as good as they said he was -
as a teacher and doctor and not detective.

The real Sherlock Holmes .....
//Doyle said that the character of Sherlock Holmes was inspired by Dr. Joseph Bell, for whom Doyle had worked as a clerk at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Like Holmes, Bell was noted for drawing large conclusions from the smallest observations.[1] However, some years later Bell wrote in a letter to Conan Doyle: "You are yourself Sherlock Holmes and well you know it."[2] Sir Henry Littlejohn, lecturer on Forensic Medicine and Public Health at the Royal College of Surgeons, is also cited as an inspiration for Holmes. Littlejohn served as Police Surgeon and Medical Officer of Health of Edinburgh, providing for Doyle a link between medical investigation and the detection of crime.[3]//

the funny thing about eidetic memory is that as a child I could do the projecting the image in mid air thing. Sometime the image was so strong it would project itself and I couldn't see through it. As an adult, I have NO memory whatsoever for people, faces or names but I am red hot on people's pets and their gardens.
