People talk of the innocence of youth. There appears no lack of knowledge in this boy's mind. I think his understanding and acceptance of the situation shows a remarkable attitude which is a credit to him and his family. I hope he still has some pleasure and fun to come.

I think the decision they have made as a family is the right one,hard though it is to say. So often (as I know from experience) it is almost that you feel duty bound to accept any new attempt to stem the tide, when the patient could be enjoying what time they have left.

How awful. Five years ago, my friend lost her 5 year old daughter to that. Blood clots were found behind her eyes at a routine optician's appointment. She was given 3 months. They had a choice of aggressive intensive treatment, which might extend her life up to a year, but would be very harsh. They too decided to let her enjoy what time she had left and no further treatment. They went on holiday and did as much as they could. She died 10 weeks after the diagnosis. The ultimate selfless decision :-(
