Hi Shaneystar thanks for the info most usefull. As to HAnn521 get a life snails are delicous especially with frogs legs!!!!!!

Hi fishbait.....though I don't eat snails I have no problem with people who do, as I do eat whelks etc which I see as sort of sea snails.........There is just one thing though, SLUGS seem to me to be snails without the shells eh? Can they be eaten too? If so, why bother with snails when you can get them ready de-shelled?

....commoner.

I love whelks but would draw the line at slugs!!!

Slugs are completely different in texture and water content to snails. I find them a bit to rubbery, unlike whelks which i agree are very nice
..You are kidding, aren't you??
....hmmm...lol..a bit rubbery you say...well maybe I'll pass on the slugs then...commoner <G>
Yes you can! The common garden snail, with it's brown and yellow shell, is not actually 'native' to these shores, but was introduced by the Romans as food. Something else the Romans did for us.
Personally I'd leave them for the thrushes and toads, they don't need to detox them!  (perhaps you could eat the thrushes and toads later)
