I have a new labrador retriever puppy. He is 7 weeks old on monday. His back legs don't seem to work all of the time, and he loses his balance, and stumbles a lot. Is this normal? Is it because he is still young? or is there something wrong?

Please help

Thank you

This sounds like it's more than baby-balance problems - I suggest you see a vet.

ok...thank you...I will book him for an appointment right away.  do you have any idea what it MIGHT be?

Thank you

Hard to say - it may be nothing, but I'd certainly suggest he's checked by a vet even if it's just to get the all clear and put your mind at rest!  He's a bit young for most of the neurological conditions which can cause such symptoms, so hopefully it's no more than wobbliness because he's young.  Let us know how you get on though. x

ok...thank you for your time Eels :)  He's my first puppy you see....I would dread for anything to go wrong with him.  I hope he's ok.  Thank you anyways :)

He is still quite young, they don't normally leave their Mum until about 8weeks. We have a Lab pup from 8weeks and he was the same wobbly and stumbling around. He's now 2years and has no problems. I really wouldn't be worried he just being a puppy.
amberlynn83.. how is your puppy?  What did the vet say?

Hello...thank you for asking butter1.....My puppy is doing really well...i took him to the vet yesterday....he had a bladder infection....and his bladder was a little bit enlarged....the vet said that is what has made his back legs 'look' as though they were weak...but he was actually in discomfort when he walked...but he's on antibiotics now...and he is already better today...i'm glad I noticed he wasn't normal...and booked him into vets straight away....i've read a few things on here...like the whole cat thing when someone didn't take their kitten to the vet with a broken tail or something.....and how she couldn't afford it....i couldn't afford it....but i'm afraid my puppy is more important than cost...i'll find a way to pay it..wether it be tomorrow...or next year...but my puppy comes first!!! :)  His name is Alfie by the way..if any one wanted to know...thank you for all advice, and thank you for wanting to know how Alfie was doing.
Ah brilliant news!  I'm pleased he is ok.  I have a dog too and they mean the world to you.  It's awful seeing them in distress, but well done you for thinking so fast. x
Pleased to hear you did the right thing and he's feeling better already!  Good on you!
