trying to think of something to write about so I will tell you about Cody,he is a three legged lurcher which we got from a rescue centre 2 years ago,he was left tied up outside a vet with a dislocated (r) leg which they could not save.he was only 5 months old.He has been with us ever since,he is such a loving, gentle dog,you could prod him, take his food off him etc. and he wouldn't even growl.he is great company for me if I am on my own when son is working,he will just come over to me and plop his head on my knee so I can clap him.he was away getting his booster jags yesterday,so that's him for another year.sometimes you wouldn't see him for hours as he sleeps most of the time, three legs in the air,he is jet black and everyone comments on his lovely shiny fur
I have a rescue dog...........had him since he was 7weeks old. he follows me everywhere, yes I do mean everywhere !. he is very noise sensitive, he is afraid of the dark/wind/cats/birds................when I sit down, some part of him has to be making contact with my body,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he adores people.
How inspiring, maybe it's because of the name "lurcher"that these underestimated kindly dogs are so often overlooked. I am also the proud owner of an 11 year old (bedlington/whippet) lurcher, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament operation on his hind leg. Reading about your Cody,he seems to have the same gentle calm nature, I do hope you have many more happy years with your lovely companion.
I've only recently heard of the Scottish (I think) term to 'clap' ie pat or stroke a dog, best wishes to you and Cody, We recently lost our sparky little Border Terrier cross after 14 years, he is much missed and I've just read on the news about a solicitor who left her dog to die shut up in a room for weeks without food or water. How can people do this to a an animal?
Thankfully I think she's been prosecuted and deservedly so.
We still have another dog and 2 cats to keep us going and they are very well looked after here as indeed they ought to be.
We have a rescue dog. He is Lurcher/Rottweiler cross and a real power house but he has the most gentle nature. So loving and gentle and we adore him and he knows it. Like Cody he has a beautiful shiny black and brindle coat. He also sleeps on his back but with his 4 legs in the air. We just love him to bits.
I rescued Hamish, in my avatar from a man who beat him with a broom handle and his fists. He was also starved and I doubt he would have survived to a year old had I not taken him from this so called man. He was 10 months old, lived to over 14 years and repaid me with unconditional love. I still miss him every day and always will.
I know how you feel Sir Alec, we had our terrier from a litter at a farm when he was 8 weeks old, he had a wonderful life with us, we must remember that.
Shaney was 18 months approx and had been kicked and starved and thrown out of a van into a builders yard .Luckily a neighbour worked there and asked me if I would take him in .Best days work I ever did .He was such a sweetie and so loyal and I still miss him although he is long gone . He lives in his box in my lounge now .
Would love to have another dog but circumstances don't allow :(
corylus, I am disgusted at the leniency of the sentence for the evil Katy Gammon. I added my name to a petition to get her jailed in the hope that she would never be able to own another animal. Looks like it worked, thank God!
Hamish was half Norfolk Terrier. We never found out what the other half was, as he just looked like a larger sized Norfolk. I have started going out for walks to try and get my health up to par, as there is a Norfolk Terrier breeder not too far away and I would love another dog. After Hamish died, I hardly left the house for 2 1/2 years, due to my Dad's fall and increased Dementia, so I've become rather unfit, due also to kidney problems causing hip and leg pain. Softly softly, I'm hoping to be fitter soon!
