More on rescued cat!

We only got her on Sunday and she follows me everywhere, bizarrely lying at my feet like a dog, not even curled up cat like, she exposes her tummy and quite likes it being stroked and occassionally play bites and kicks me! She looks as if she is desperate to sit on my knee but hasn't plucked up the courage - she jumps on then straight off and again lies really close!  She also twitches her tail quite a lot but doesn't seem unhappy!  Sorry for all the questions not had a cat in the house before (only at parents)! Just need a bit reassurance please??!!

I also have two re-homed cats, one of whom acts the same, I've had them for two years now.

I've found if I just let her come to me when she wants to, she is fine.  It's funny tho, she follows me everywhere and chirrups at me, she's really sweet.

Chirrups, that is exactly the word I was looking for, purrs, miaows and this other strange noise too, like brrrr!

She is behaving perfectly normally and sounds just wonderful.  Don't forget that photograph!

The important thing with cats is not to try and force contact. She will sit on your lap when she's ready. Just be patient.

In the meantime you're doing the right thing - letting her stay close and making a fuss of her when she shows her tummy for tickling. I'm sure you're going to get along like a house on fire.

My little kitty Sid makes that funny brrrrr noise too, usually when he can't find his big sister!

Hi shaz-rla,she sounds absolutely gorgeous,and the fact that she is following you around,sticking close and allowing her tummy to be exposed,shows what a big hit you are with her! She obviously trusts you already and it looks as if you will have an adoring fan for life! I agree that you should let her dictate the pace of lap sitting,My 9year old "wee man",loves to be stroked and massaged, and actively calls out for you to do this,but,does not like to lap sit or actually be picked up and cuddled.Looking forward to your picture!

Most animals consider their under-belly to be their most vulnerable spot - in the wild this is the part predators would go for as it's access to their vital organs - so pets like cats and dogs who allow us to tickle them there are actually paying us a huge compliment ! It sounds like you ahve nothing to worry about.

Hi shaz-rla, She sounds such a lovely puss, you are so lucky to have found each other. Not many cats like their tummy tickled so you very honoured, my Sooty who was a rescued cat loves his tummy tickled, so does Millie, but Merlin isn't so keen.  My Merlin makes that funny noise like its a cross between a pritt and a meow specially when he is carrying around one of his fluffy mouse toys.  I'm looking forward to see a photograph of her.    :-)

Hello - I think you are doing magnificently!  Just a comment on the tail twitching - I think it may be her inner confusion.  In my experience, cats tend to twitch their tails when they are torn between ideas!  She wants to be cuddled but still has a few apprehensions.  I reckon once she has had a couple of good cuddles and trusts you her tail will stop twitching!  I have 'quite a few' cats of varying ages (all taken in as unwanted and unloved) so I have seen a range of behaviour traits.  I reckon you are really on a winner there, before long you will have to forcibly remove her from your lap!
