Phoebe. My Lovely Westie
Any help please to get over the loss of my 15 year old Westie? I am too old to get a very young dog and can't afford the vet bills that come with an oldie.
Thanks for any help'

Often with older dogs rescues will help with vets bills - in fact I have rehomed one this week with someone in our breed after her owner died - our Welfare scheme is paying for any medication she might need and although she may not have many months left she will at least be loved and cared for during her twilight years.
The Oldies Club are also always on the lookout for people to foster the dogs for short periods and to assess them to help them find the right forever home. http:// www.old ies.org .uk/
what about fostering? there are lots of dogs unable to cope with kennels and just need a bit of 'time out' until the right forever home comes along - that way you'd be helping more than one unwanted pet over the years. I do appreciate everyone isn't able to deal with handing the animal back then taking a new one on but it may be worth thinking about.
I too am an oldie and lost my beloved shar pei at 14,three weeks after this my hubby died, he was very ill but he never got over loosing his pet which we brought home at twelve weeks, then one year later our shar pei cross staffy rescue whom we had for over ten years went over the rainbow bridge too, its awful to come to an empty house, but like you too old to start again and cope with vet bills, I am seriously thinking of fostering but I am such a softie I wont be able to hand back, so now I offer to have friends animals whilst they go on holiday so I know its short time and don't get too attached.
