There is demolition work going on locally and we seem to be seeing more rats. Neighbours are putting down bait to get rid of them. My concern is about my cat who is always on the look out for rats, mice etc. I don't think he eats them but of course I can't be sure. Any ideas.

A cat is not likely to eat a rat, if it does it is unlikely to be affected by the small amount of poison that would be contained in a rat, this also depends of course on the type of poisons being used.
Unlikely that a domestic well-fed cat would eat a rat - but she may kill one.

Maske sure she is fed properly - as i am sure you do - and she will be fine.

Thanks for your answers, feeling somewhat reassured.
One of my cats brings home dead rats - o joy - but has never tried to eat one. It's the case which is exciting, not the eating. Now mice, that's a different matter....
I don't think most domestic cats would fancy eating a rat - cats are far too fastidious for that - only a desparatly hungy ferral cat would tackle one.
Yeah I agree Ratter

a rat is too big for a cat ( or a bat ) - sorry song yesterday.......

We had a rat infestation - ugh ! - and none of the local mogz died by mistake when the rat catcher went after them
Campbell cat has caught a rat and left its corpse in the garden untouched. She often catches mice, and enjoys chomping them apart from the bottom bit which she normally leaves .
Robbie on the other hand has never managed to catch anything beyond a spider...
