I'm an animal lover but I do get your point, we need to are about people too.
.

I am reminded of a conversation ( rather short ) I had with my late father when in the course of something, I mentioned that X had given his girl-friend/mother ( no not the same woman ) a silver cross

and he commented triumphantly: and what did you give YOUR mother for her birthday ?

-[ and after that I have always demanded expensive present for my birthday.... no no that is not the point I wanted to make, but presents are still always welcome ]

and how much or what contribution did Private Eye make to either of them, besides the odd *** remark ?

Food for thought there, jj. I gave to Manchester Dogs Home but not to the flood appeal.
Private Eye is a satirical magazine, not a charity fundraiser.
We can't give to all causes.
.

That Private Eye lot doncha love them ? a humpin' and a - bumpin about the fire in Manc - and only a few dogs were barbecued ! - and that hunk in the leather tie - Ian, the editor - Hi-yeee ! Just let me get HIM in the broom cupboard.

written in the style of Glenda Slagg of that infected organ, private eye
Manchester Dog's home is just down the road, S.E Asia, the majority of people could not name one country i.e it hardly exists.

Famine, floods, disease is seen as part of their culture and we in the UK have been immunised by the pictures in the media......it has no impact anymore.
I agree with sqad - we can relate to the dog's home fire which was a criminal offence by the sound of it. Natural happenings in far-0ff countries are a fact for life for those people, and are very remote from us.
^ dogs'
I prefer the former to the latter.
Many Brits are stupid about animals - they deprecate Korea for eating dogs, but are quite happy to tuck into India's sacred animal. Hypocrites.
UK taxpayers already give 10 billion to foreign aid, I don't believe anything is given to animal charities.

Typical journalistic snipe, and a very poor correlation.

How many Asian/African flood/famine/disaster appeals are there each year? How much is given in total via all channels not only 'Just Giving'?

How many Dogs Home fires on this scale are there each year??

The whole premise is flimsy and that's being polite.
The dogs' home problem is a one-off. As an animal lover the fact that these poor dogs were in the building to start with is a horrible thought.

I have no problem with people in other parts of the world eating cats and dogs. I object to them treating them exceptionally cruelly to improve the meat.

Disasters are happening all over the world and are constant. Helping is a bit like pi55ing in the sea. I do voluntary work for Oxfam and sometimes I wonder if we are making any impact. The whole situation is very complex.

^^ The above should read...

At the end of the day, SE Asia aside for a moment, there will always be problems in third world countries like Sudan etc, no matter how much money people throw at this - Band Aid concert in the 80s as an example - sadly the situation never changes. People need to stop reproducing. I would rather give to local charities at home and animals charities as then there is a chance something gets done with the donations.
The Dogs' Home is on our territory, our problem and we can do something about it to help solve one less evil in the world. Overseas Aid is something which is governmentally organised and we have to trust that our involuntary donations through taxation will help, so we are all already donating. Any other money collected is voluntary and extra. We do not have money directed by the British government to help UK dogs' homes, they rely completely on voluntary donations. Perhaps this helps to explain the figures.
