Frontline

Further to catwomans question about Frontline on Cats.  Why do the cats act this way, when putting frontline on them? does it burn the skin??  Mine seem to know when they are going to be frontlined! thanks

My theory is when we go to 'frontline' a cat with the best will in the world we do give them signs that we are going to be doing something to them.  I think they sense this is not a normal pick-up and cuddle.  Because of the accuracy of putting the stuff on we do tend to hold them tighter, spend time parting the fur and then applying the liquid which would feel  cold to a cats senses. 

I know of both cats and dogs who have reacted to the liqud and developed a rash, blistering a hair loss in the area the application was put on.  I think these occurences are rare and there are other alternatives to the liquid application.

I try to be prepared i.e. top off capsule, comb handy to part fur and then try and do the whole procedure as quickly as possible.

Its a far less stressful event for me then administering the dreaded worming tablet which I now sport some pretty impressive scars from!!!

Hi Eastender, I think my cats just sense that I'm going to do the frontline even though I hide the pipette's from their view they just seem to know whats going to happen, I try and apply the frontline as quickly as possible without too much stress to my cats ( and myself ) but Millie is a little vixon when she doesn't like things done to her. Its a joy to brush her though, she loves it and will let me carry on for ages, where Sooty hates being brushed, with him having a front leg missing he cant groom himself very well so we have to keep on top of it or he tends to get lots of tot's in his fur, and where worming is concerned I absolutly dread doing it, I ended up taking them to the vets and have it done there.   :-)
