white poppy means peace in a C O type of sense - conscientious objector
My late grandfather was handed a white feather whilst in mufti and on leave and just about had a fit. er this was 1916
apparently it was 'not done' to answer back the pretty young lady who smiled knowingly as she handed it to him.
He had resigned from the ICS when he joined up ( RFA ) who numbered 100 000 by the end of the war in 1918. And as he had resigned and not been seconded, he sent back into the ICS as a clerk with all the pension penalties starting again entailed.
Having strong connections with The Royal British Legion for a large part of my life, I follow their general opinion on the White Poppy - in that it is everyone's right to wear a Poppy of their own choosing.
I don't think me offering them a rude gesture is the way to go.
I have had Purple Poppies in the past,did not manage to get one this year.
