The Burning Of The Bulls.

There's an article in The Mirror today, with photographs, of a fiesta in Spain where burning tar is attached to the horns of bulls as part of the celebrations.
Is there no depth of cruelty they won't plumb?

Or the golf where they bury chickens up to their heads and then... :-(

I have a friend who lives in Barcelona and he said that you could kick a dog to death in the street there and you wouldn`t even be reported. Maybe the EU should do something about the treatment of animals in some countries rather than telling us what shape our fruit should be and whether we can sell it in lbs or kilos.

They don't all believe animals have rights so that 's not going to happen any time soon. That's one of the issues with the EU, despite some similarities we are not all the same culture, the same people. One size does not fit all. Well not unless we make all the rules of course.

Anyway we've not properly dealt with fox hunting yet (not to mention badger hunts) so fingers can be pointed back.

You can`t use culture as an excuse though. Culture dictates that some girls undergo female circumcision but that doesn`t make it right.

But isn't there is a sizeable majority declaring that wrong ? I'd not put much faith in the same level of agreement about animal right across the EU. Different situation. Easier for one grouping to criticise another but it's all a bit more incestuous when it's all within the EU countries and you need a consensus.

Well that`s the thing. Maybe people aren`t bothered. The Uk are very politically correct (and we get that trait from the US, not Europe) We are told that we can`t foxhunt (even though that serves a purpose) because it is cruel but you can put a pigeon in a terracotta pot and throw it off the top of a church tower in Spain and stick knives into the body of a live bull.

Just for the record bullfighting has been banned in Catalonia.
At least this is some progress and hopefully will expand to other regions in Spain.

I sometimes wonder just how much more depraved the human race can get ! I can only hope now that one of the larger animal charities takes this on and hopefully gets it stopped.
