I really fancy taking up a countryside sport but can't decide which one, so am looking for ideas. Unfortunately, hunting is banned so that's out. Grouse shooting appeals, but is very expensive I've heard. Fishing seems a little boring. Ferreting could be interesting, but I've heard they can be quite smelly and bite. Anyone know anything about falconry?

Do you really want to kill for enjoyment? Or is the sport more important?

Falconry is a difficult art to master and takes a lot of dedication, i suggest watching 'Kes'

umm walking, birdwatching, wildflower hunting, geocaching? riding in one of its many forms....or do you need to kill something?
I've been a freshwater angler all my life and the phrase "a bad days fishing beats a good days working" is very true.

The thought of sitting there in the middle of nowhere surrounded by peace, quiet and glorious countryside and watching nature do its work is awesome. Catching a fish by pitting your wits against nature is a bonus.

Boring ???.....never

Stag hunting might be quite challenging and then you could move onto big game, and bag yourself an elephant or two. It also might lead into a little taxidermy side hobby.

Try orienteering, it should keep you away from people if you've been ferreting.
