Hi,

I have just bought a little goldfish for my cold water 'biorb' aquarium set up....I followed all the instructions about settling the goldfish into his new home....But it is all I can do just to sit and watch him, to see if he is settling in..It is like having another new born baby in the house again...I am a busy mum/wife, but I have found myself drifting over to the tank to see if the fish is ok..He looks pretty calm and settled and is rooting around the media for any remains of the fish food..I have even found myself talking to 'it'!!!! Will I sleep tonight???? Or will I keep getting up during the night to see if the fish is still swimming around..Who knows....So..Please can anyone just drop a few hints to put my mind at ease that this little goldfish is happy in it's new home...

Thank you...Kind regards..AudiTT...xx

it's been said that goldfish only have a memory span of 3 seconds so as long as theres water in the tank i'm sure it will be fine but be careful in you intorduce another fish they can be territorial.

Totally ignore the above reply.
Goldfish have more than a 3 second memory, otherwise they'd forget to feed and breathe.

Goldfish are non-terratorial. Being a cyprinid or a member of the carp family, they are happier in the company of their own kind...often in large shoals.

Goldfish are greedy omnivores that will eat anything, the secret is not to overfeed them. A good quality flake or mini-pellet fed twice a day is fine...don't put too puch in. I feed my koi carp on anything from pepperami to prawns to oranges to bread and honey...all from my hand.

To keep your biorb in tip top condition, replace abot 10-20% of the old water every week with fresh, de-chlorinated water. Never completely clean the whole tank out as this will kill off benificial filter bacteria which is used to break down fish waste.
After a week or two, it should be fine to add another fish.
www.uk-aquarist.com will also give you answers if you have probs. But be nice...i'm a moderator on there...lol

Good luck
Goldfish grow quite quickly. I think it is supposed to be 10gall for every fish not sure how much a biorb holds. We had one and the fish soon outgrew it. I have two coldwater tanks with 4 orandas and 1 tropical tank. Oh and a small pond with 5 goldfish. I think goldfish are very friendly and relaxing to watch. Good luck with yours and hope you enjoy it.
So long as you wind him, after his last feed, he should go through the night ok :-)
Hi auditt,I dont know a thing about goldfish, but wont he get lonely?Perhaps you could get him a friend.
