In the meantime, they disappear into peoples gardens and among dense undergrowth where they happily munch away on all sorts of insects. You will see them more on warm, damp evenings when they are out looking for slugs. Adult frogs return to the water around february in order to pick a mate (or 10 !!!). Once they've spawned, they will return to the garden again....although they never stray very far from water and some prefer to stay in water all year. Toads tend to rely on water a lot less and only return to ponds to spawn. If you have them in your garden, they're likely to stay unless you reove their food scources (nearly impossible). They are great for the garden and a good sign that your garden is "creature friendly"....enjoy them and whatever you do, don't hurt or kill them |
