When I got my dog, Ben, from a rescue home last year, he was black and white. His coat has gradually changed and he is now virtually grey and white. He is jus over 4 years old. Would being neutered have any bearing on this? I mean, would it affect his hormones or something. When I took him back to the rescue centre the other week, the girls didn't recognise him.
I'm mystified.

I have just Googled "dog coat colour greying" und have come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful information.
You don't say what breed Ben is but according to some of the information it can be to do with their genes
.My Shane was black and tan when we got him ...he is now black and cream!!
dogsbody the lady who clips my KC spaniel says that she can spot a castrated dog straight away by it's coat. It can change them apparently. I'm sure he's still the same dog inside, if a little quieter maybe? :-)

Thank you for your input. It probably is because of neutering.
Shaneystar. He's a lovely little skirting-board terrier. Bits of everything, but very rewarding. He was found half-starved with a rope round his neck. He was so bad that we had to wait 7 weeks before he was fit enough to be taken home. Now he's in a dog's paradise. Completely ruined. :)
my Shih-Tzu was registered as gold and white. She only has a very pale gold patch on her hind the size of a 50pence piece. She has turned brindle and white. My other one is black and white and the breeder said that she could turn grey and white but she hasn't, she is still black.
Oh poor little chap. How can people be so cruel. Our previous dog was a terrier.Lovely little dogs.
Our Shane was thrown out of a van by some itinerants and landed up running loose in a builders yard.My neighbour ..who worked in the yard..knew I was thinking about another dog after Mickey went to doggy heaven so he brought him to me.
Shane is completely spoilt too!

Great programme, but my pictures are too big. Will have to reduce them next time.
Thanks a lot. First pic. is Ben's first day at the rescue centre. You can see why we fell for him. Second pic. is Ben a few months ago, going grey.
Oh... he's lovely ! Lovely dogs little terriers. He looks full of beans.Bless him.
I cannot understand why people want to mistreat animals.
He obviously has a loving home now.
I remember when my neighbour brought Shane to me ...he came in and laid down and seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
I think they know where they are going to be well treated.
Question Author
They certainly do!
Thanks again, Shaneystar.

I hate to say this but rescue centres very often have to guess the age of a dog so Ben may be a little older than the four years they said he was when you rehomed him. And I should think the treatment he got before he was rescued was enough to turn his coat grey before time anyway.

http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=dgjhgl  I've just tried following shaneystar's instructions and I hope you can see a picture of my delinquent hound Hamish.

Wow, wrong picture! Try again!

Hope this is the one.. (this is the first time I've done this after all).

Question Author
Never mind, Emily. Your picture of Hamish is great. He looks a great friendly dog. Again, a beautiful coat.
HamIsh is lovely..no wonder you say he is a deliquent dog emily ...he looks so full of fun. Dogs give you so much pleasure.Well any pet really... ..and why people want to mistreat them is beyond me.
Lovely to see all these doggy pictures.
