...can anyone recommend a good book on the subject, please? I've just bought the Kindle version of Robert Fisk's Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War, which is a first-hand journalist's report of his experiences.

surely that should be A History of the Lesbian Civil War....

I am not sure if there is a decent English history of the descent of Lebanon from a successful westernised economy in the early sixties, patronised by rich Arabs as a playground, to a flattened area of rubble in the early seventies.

Yes, it's a tragedy, Peter. I'm expecting Fisk as a writer for the Independent to tell me that it's all Israel's fault, which is why I'd like to get an analysis by a professional historian as well.
Israel is pretty obviously gonna be blamed

but I think three million people ( er lets call them the Lesbians ) agreed collectively to implode
