National Park has been deliberately shot at with a bow and arrow and hours later when that hadn't killed him he was shot and killed by an American dentist. The killing itself is bad enough but the repercussions for Cecil's offspring are dire.

I find it strange that game rangers, guides, wild life film makers etc etc are frowned upon if they terminate a wild animals life, no matter how cruel and harsh the circumstances - that the way it is in the bush, let nature take it's course etc, etc. Yet a hunter can pay a shedload of money to kill for a trophy and interfere with the status quo in an area and, in this...

sorry to say this ladybirder but this goes on all the time - I know people on anti poaching patrol and the scale of the problem is phenominal
The investigation could lead to charges under U.S. law. If Palmer is charged with similar offenses by Zimbabwe, that would clear the way for him to be extradited to that country under a treaty Zimbabwe entered into with the United States in July 1997. It calls for persons of interest to be extradited between the two countries in cases that include a conspiracy or attempt to commit a crime, aiding and abetting a crime, or being an accessory.

Yes I know it is rsvp.

About time that coward came out of hiding Tony. Does he think everyone will forget if he stays there long enough.
Does he think everyone will forget if he stays there long enough.

That's what he hopes will happen I think, ladybirder.
My personal opinion is that this will never happen tony - cannot see The States surrendering one of it's own to Zim. Not say whether it's right or wrong , just saying can't see it happening.
Personally I don't either, rsvp.
Question Author
No they're not very good at that rsvp but play a different tune when it's the other way round.
Hasn't this saga run for long enough. It's certainly had the lion's share of media attention ;-)

It now looks as if it wasn't Jericho who was killed but some other poor creature.

Here's a small C&P from a longer article in The Telegraph by Martin Daubney who makes a stab at explaining why they do it.

"The fact that it involves death doesn’t seem to register with them, as they are immune to the animal’s suffering and reason that “if it’s legal, what’s the problem?” But they don’t see this killing is only legal because it’s too lucrative not to be.
But while speaking to Mario, it became clear that this was not only about power of man over beast, it was power over other men, and it is highly addictive.
How do you match that rush next time? By killing something bigger, more expensive, and with ever more dubious legality. Which is how that path led to the tragic slaughter of Cecil, a protected animal, lured from safety by the stench of dollar bills.
But Cecil will not be the last. So long as there is wealth and demand, there will always be a way – and a will – to kill. And men like Palmer, Mario and Jay will be eager to pull the trigger."

I think he's hit the nail on the head.

Exactly what the waitress thought as well I think, ladybirder.
Yes still in hiding I believe.

Bibble that woman makes me see red, I can't even look at the picture. I'm sick of seeing gloating hunters and their dead prey. Tony's 20.29 link holds out a bit of hope with this message, "We are hopeful that Cecil's death will not be in vain and that he will be the catalyst for long term positive change in the protection of Lions across Africa - hopefully deep down the pride will know and understand this." Good to know that Jericho has stepped up to look after his brother's cubs. I hope he's allowed to get on with it unhindered. Just maybe some good will come of this after all.
Just maybe some good will come of this after all.

I hope so.
Good on Delta airlines for banning the carriage of trophies. Lets hope others follow suit. If people can't bring home their trophy, they might be less inclined to kill the animals
I didn't know about that, 237SJ. A good idea indeed.
