There will be children all over my small town who have seen what has happened in Paris - and been reassured by loving parents with "Don't worry, it won't happen here".

Now (over a week after the 5th) some thoughtless/brainless idiot has just let off a series of deafeningly loud fireworks - no display, just bangs.

I can actually hear next door's young children screaming ...

Dave, theres always some bonehead that would think that would be an amusing thing to do.
and been reassured by loving parents with "Don't worry, it won't happen here".

That's not what I have told my kids
Yes there were some here an hour ago - as you say mindless behaviour.
Although I have no time for people who let off fireworks at any time outside of November 5th and Diwali, why should we change our behaviours because of Islamist terrorists? Isn`t that exactly what they want us to do?

That's a very interesting and throught provoking reply, talbot - worthy of a proper discussion.

I haven't got kids myself, but am not sure what I'd say to them if I had. Perhaps it varies with their age?
Yes Dave, you would have to tailor it to the child's age and their level of understanding too.
My son works in London, uses the tube twice daily, was in one behind the bomb on the tube, so yes, I worry and fireworks should be banned outside licensed display.
There was a major security alert - I think at Batignolles? - this afternoon when a firework letting-off was mistaken for shooting, They even got the helicopters out. Funny time of day to be doing fireworks but French people do like them :-)
My Mum lived in London during WW2. She never stopped talking about her experiences of spending every night for 3 years in an Anderson shelter with her parents, siblings and pets. As a child I remember watching old black and white war films on the TV and I used to worry that the war would somehow come back again (I was very young so didn`t understand) If people today are worried about a few fireworks, then I worry about the moral backbone of this country.
You really have missed the point, 237...who is worried about a few fireworks?
I haven`t missed the point.
Psybbo, one of the reasons why I am glad I've retired as I hated and feared my tube journey. I remember once a Muslim got on with a backpack and started chanting, you've never seen a carriage empty so quick! That was one instance.
As a child you worried about the war coming back......

Can the neighbouring children not worry that what they may have seen on the news is happening near to them?

Or are you suggesting it's Dave who has no moral backbone?
Sharon, that must have been so frightening, my worry is my son would try to do something about it
I am inclined to keep well away from them.
No Gness. I certainly didn`t suggest that Dave has no moral backbone. I can`t see how you came to that conclusion.
Well it was either Dave or the children.
sunny dave, this is Diwali weekend. The Hindu festival of lights, traditionally celebrated with fireworks.
We have had a large display near me.Much louder than anything on the 5th.
Chinese New Year soon!
Fireworks going of here too. As you say, Dave, brainless twits.

Well you can work that one out at your leisure gness as I can see that you are obviously gunning for an arguement and I am not going to give you one so good luck with that.
