I'll try and keep this short....
My life long ambition has been to join the police and have final got a start date.. then this happens...
On saturday my sis ter split up with her boyfriend. He didnt want it to end - he forcefully entered my house, did criminal damage on my parents house and assulted me. We called the police and he was arrested. He was giving a conditional bail not to come near our house, or to contact us. As soon as he was released, he called us. From sat til mon he called us over 200 times and sat outside waiting for us to leave. We called 999 as we couldnt leave the house because he 'waiting for us'. It took police 4 hours to help us. He has been arreseted now 2 times for breeching his bail and both time he has been let out. He was arrested again last night but only held for 2 hours, he was straight round to my parents house. 5 people were inside scared to leave. We called the police again - but we were informed that until he comes to the door and actually 'does something' they wont come! I had to be driven to work today becasue I dont want to be on my own?
I will NEVER call 999 again (and wish I hadnt this time). So if I dont trust the police, why am I joining? I have seen 9 police officers in 4 days. All have been extremely helpful but thats all. This is going to go on for months!
My start date is the 21st of Nov, I am seriously considering terminating my application. I thought the police were there to protect and serve? Who? in this case they havent protected or served the victim!
I dont know what to do!

There are certain things You might want to consider Will you joining the police force make a difference to things and if so then you should join.
If it won't make a difference I suggest you have a chat with the personnel officer at your allocated station or training centre tell them the reality of the situation and how you feel and ask them for advice, obv they may or may not allay your fears which might leave you at square one again, but pls pls talk to a professional body rather than asking the common joe although the common joe's perspective is good too,
Sorry if i have been unhelpful but I tried xxx
Let us know how you get on either way Floss xxx
I agree. You should join. I'm sure it won't be far into your career as a police officer when you are called to a similar incident involving other scared and vulnerable people. You would be far more effective at sorting a problem out given your recent nasty experience.
Is there really nothing they can do? I'm no expert but I thought restraining orders or ASBOs could be used to keep people away. Although if this guy's seemingly happy to break bail conditions to intimidate your parents one doesn't know how succesful this would be.... It might be worth keeping a diary of when he appears/calls. It might be useful if he is prosecuted again.
Sounds like a horrible, horrible situation and I'm really sorry for you all.
We were told to make a list of all the calls we recieved and what was said in each conversation by the first couple of police officers. Now they are saying that this is not evidence as the telephone needs to be hooked up the a special scientific voice device to prove it was him! I feel totally useless. The CJS is a joke!
He has now said that she has been calling harrassing him (she is 17 and hasnt gone out of the house since Saturday and wont even go near a window in case he sees here). I understand that the police need to investigate counter allegations however all of the officer have seen how distraught and vulnerable she is.
