Mice

I heard a noise coming from my loft, went up and mice had been there and chewed stuff. I cleaned the mess up and have heard nothing since, this was a couple of weeks ago. Now, I have bought some sonic repellers and plugged them in up in the loft, but i have to leave the loft hatch open as the elec cable is plugged in on the landing, so not ideal as I'm losing heat. I was told just to plug it in on the landing as it still worked when my cousin had mice in her loft, but reading the box it says the ultrasonic waves dont penetrate through solid objects. Im well confused. I can't lay traps, I'm too scared

Sonic repellers are USELESS !. I had one, mice used to sit on top of it while it was turned on. Get some mouse bait if you do not want to use traps.

Oh no really :( Do i just put it on a dish or something up there, and do they take it away ad never come back. My problem is, I'm so tickle stomached, I'd literally be ill if i saw a dead mouse in a trap

Mouse poison has always worked for us. It usually comes with a couple of plastic dishes to put it in. If not, any shallow throw-away container will do.
Keep checking the poison and topping it up.
When you don't have to top it up any more, the mice have been eliminated.
We've never found any bodies, they die elsewhere.

The down side of poison is that the little *** will go off and die somewhere , where it's difficult for you to get to or indeed somewhere where you will have to spend a lot of time trying to find out where the smell is coming from

Have a look at ths web site below. They are very to easy to use - just bait the trap with a bit of cheese. They catch the mice alive and you can then do as you please. If you release the mice it must be a least two miles away.

The advantage is that it is solid,so it would not be able to touch you when you pick it up, put in a box and then drive the 2 miles to let it out. Caught most with hamster food.

I can't help with best way to get rid of them but my friend has farm, there were mice in her loft recently, she laid poison, came in from the paddocks one evening and her bedroom was flooded, they had to get rentokil in along with plumber, the poison made the mice thirsty, they heard water flow through pipe in attic and gnawed through them, so I think don't lay poison near pipes.

I have never had a problem with the mouse bodies smelling after poison.
In fact I do not think I have ever seen one.
I can confirm, though, that if you catch them alive, you have to take them quite a distance away before releasing them. They 'home'.

Ooh Ladyalex you have been lucky, when I was working and the office upstairs was being renovated we were inundated. After Pest Control had been there was the most awful smell, we had to have a counter position completely dismantled to get the bodies out. Another couple of hours to reassemble, and few disgruntled customers due to restricted service.

We have a detached house with garden all round, so I think we get field mice rather than house mice, so when they're poisoned they probably go outside to die .

Never had the 'pest man' in for mice as the poison has always worked for us.

As already mentioned, if you lay poison they'll only die somewhere like in the wall cavity and there's potential there for a smell you can't get rid of until it's completely decomposed.

Can you not find someone to help you lay some traps?

The humane ones are the best, use a mixture of caramel chocolate and peanut butter - high in protein, they love it.

Place on the edges of things as mice will follow walls and walk around things rather than across an empty space.

Check the traps daily, twice if possible and relocate at least a mile away otherwise they can come back.
