Saw Palmetto

Can anyone enlighten me on Saw Palmetto please.

Reason being, OH been admitted to hospital twice in the past 2 weeks with bleeding from his penis.

After several test he is now waiting to have a Cystoscopy performed under general anesthetic as a flexible Cystoscopy results were poor due to bleeding.

He also has an extra large Prostate..

I have been looking at old posts on here and see someone recommended taking Saw Palmetto as a means to

"" helps to stop the prostate gland from becoming enlarged and it does help those frequent toilet trips through the night""

Anyone have first hand knowledge of this please.

He is prescribed medication for the night trips to the bathroom but still gets up 3-4,even 5 times a night.

He takes medication for his swollen ankles due to a heart condition...[sounds like he wants putting down!!]

I'm just interested in whether these may help him or is it unwise to take anything else with the medication he is already prescribed.

I told you before that his bleeding has nothing to do with his prostate..............wait for his cystoscopy.

Was diagnosed with Prostate cancer 6 years ago come this July. Prior to that, for quite a few years, had problems with going to pee a lot and, like you, was told about Saw Palmetto - tried it for a few months but proved to make no difference whatsover. That was for me though, might be ok for someone else. Eventually I was prescribed Flomax ( Tamsulosin Hydrochloride), this made a great difference. Hope this helps. Wish OH all the best.

Realise that, was just telling cupotee that some years before being diagnosed I was having problems and tried Saw Palmetto. She asked about Saw Palmetto in the first line of her post.
