Dog problem

The next door dog keeps coming into our garden and pooing in the garden. We can't afford to put a high fence up all along the boundary. The neighbours are friendly and we do not want to complain. Is there any way of stopping the dog pooing in our garden?

Not really. A fence will be your only option if you don't want to discuss it with your neighbours. You could do what me grandfather did - get a small shuffle an flick it back into there gardern in the wee small hours. If they notice, they might get the hint. If not, it should've been there anyway.

Or you could also try finding out when it comes out to do it's business and make a big noise when it does..

No easy answer, we have the same problem with a local farmers dog.

As a last resort, get a really big cork......

Sprinkle that "Get of my Garden" crystals along the boundary.
It does deter dogs and cats.You have to reapply after rain and it could work out expensive if you have a long boundary.
I would have a word with the neighbour though.It's not acceptable for them to allow their dog to do this.I would suggest to them that they come and clear it up.Please or offend!!

If you can catch the dog, I recommend the garden hose, or large water gun. Just as a little deterant (fun too!)

You can buy an electronic system that emits a high pitched sound that will keep the dog away....

or as a cheap alternative, try filling up an old plastic lemonade or coke bottle (the large 1 or 2 litre ones) and leaving it in the garden.  Apparently this scares dogs away, but I have no idea why.  Old orange peel sprinkled around (or water boiled with orange peel) keeps cats away.

To be fair to the neighbours they do try to stop the dog getting in to our garden by bordering up the gaps in the hedge, but the dog always finds a way in. The dog can get in just by jumping over the front garden wall. If I put a high gate up in the passage between the front and the back garden it will make it a lot harder for the dog to get in.

I think it would help a lot if I got one of those electronic systems that qtaran 111 mentioned.

Dogs are horrible, dirty smelly things anyway. Who'd have a dog when you can have a cat?

Get an old worn out low powered air pistol and shoot the dog in the backside whenever the dog comes in your land,  it wont damage it but it will sting and it will eventually get the message!

This is terrible why should you even be thinking of spending your hard earned money putting up fencing or investing in granules, or sprays or electronic devices?..this is your neighbours dog and it is totally their responsibility to keep it under control, theres no way you should be forking out money.  I'd have the politest of words with them and see if there isnt more that THEY can do to proof the hedge on thier side or something.

Talk to your neighbours.   You dont have to be rude or irrate.   If they dont sort it then try other measures like flicking it back squirting the dog etc.
