Insect Identification Help Please

My step daughter has sent me the the attached picture taken by my six year old grandson (hence the quality) and he'd like to know what sort of insect it is please, I have no idea :-( PS. First time I've tried to link a picture so may take a couple of goes!

Good call buddy, I was thinking snipe fly but could not find one with the elongated antenna as in the example.

Thanks DB (and Togo), think we'll stick to the 'fly' part of the name, he was fine with wasps until he started school but has now absorbed the 'panic' reactions from his fellows and teaching assistants. In my opinion no-one should be allowed to be in charge of children if they can't control their reactions in the presence of wasps/bees/moths etc.!!
