Dole company has a intro of pineapples growing, it starts with large leaves, sharp looking, then the pineapple rises from the middle of those leaves..check it out...

Hi adam, The answer is neither one,  a pinapple growing is very close to the ground, imagine the pinapple as you probably buy it (whole not tinned!!) the bottom has the remains of some leaves attached, the bottom most leaves would actually touch the ground and the roots start at the bottom of the leaves, the base of the actual fruit is only about 50mm from the ground.
