Can A Hamster Gnaw Treated Leather

My sons hamster had a night of freedom last night!! We caught her this morning.. but I realised she had chewed right through one off my leather shoes (Birkenstock style!) (not patent) it is unfuxable as she has ha a good old chew of it!! Was wondering if it was safe for her if I just gave her the shoe to chew in in her tank? She obviously enjoyed it!!! Thanks!

I'd reckon a hamster could chew everything bar cast iron.

As to could they pass it through their digestive system is another question.

Would urge caution. Had lots of hamsters and you should really let them eat only things which you are absolutely certain won't harm them. Why take the risk?

I agree with scooping. hamsters will chew and swallow things they can’t digest and also it can give them infected pouches....remove the shoe

It doesn't take much to kill a hamster. We got through loads in my childhood.

My hamster ate several buttons off the TV remote. Agree with above don't give her the shoe. You can buy chew toys pretty cheaply for hamsters at pet stores.
