thats just my view it was years ago they have probley made them better now.
Put them on a schedule for feeding, put it down for 1/2 hour and if they eat okay, if not pick it up, and try later. The other cat won't have access to it, (OR get the flap with a controled collar). That way your cats will become use to eating on a schedule, and it will spoil the other cats trespassing, and ignore the 3 am wake up call if you let them wake you they will keep doing it.
Just a thought take it or leave it.
I have a very healthy big male tom cat which is 15, and has a good reputation up my road for going into peoples sheds and eating there cats food, (even though he is well fed at home) I cant give him dry food his kidneys cant cope with it. he then proceeds to throw the hole lot up out side my neighbours back doors coz hes over eaten...the magnetic cat flap that lets your cat in and no one elses do work depending upon how determined the cat is to get in, mine has broken 3 down our road they were not happy people and said they would kick him if he kept eating there food, i read about the water trick. throwing it out the bedroom window so that the cat cant see where it is coming from and soon they asociate not to go there. i do get a wet cat quite frequantly...but better for the cat than harm
