What is the best way to tell how fresh they are? I've just found 6 hidden away (different place from where I found 11 last month). I just break them into a cup as required and use them if OK. Is there a better way? Dread to think I might break open a rotten one and feel ill for the next week or so!

We always used to put them in a bowl of water. If they floated they were old. If not they were OK
Put them in a big bowl of water. If they sink they are ok. If they float, chuck them out. If they come half way up the water they are on the turn....so I was told.

I could never remember whether I wanted them to sink or swim!
Sink seems to be the favourite!
Don't throw them away if they don't immediately sink to the bottom.... eggs are fine for while after the top hits the surface of the water....!! Use these first tho' if you have others that are fresher.

Had 4 this morning and they were fine. Thought they would be, but you never know!
