So = 80 year old female presents to GP with painful growth/lump on leg just behind knee. Doctor says "I don't know what that is" and recommends making appointment with therapist and take pain killers!
This is not a hard lump like a blood clot - it is bit spongy and is on the left side of the crease behind the knee. Painful - cant climb stairs now and makes car journey a nightmare....

Has she made an appointment with a therapist? They might have a better idea.
The lady should ask to be referred to hospital to have it investigated properly.
No big deal......almost certainly a Baker's Cyst....a fluid filled bag called a bursa....it might even be infected.
I agree with the advice of your GP.
