which causes more fear- spiders or snakes? with me its spiders(and crawling insects in general- although they fascinate me to the point of study) snakes are no probs and ive handled a python.
But those ghastly oversized house spiders can be aggressive sods and live up to their fearsome looks- in fact i rather have a red knee tarantula(just) crawling on my arm than a horrible house spider
so what is it for you?

I'm scared of neither, but i'd say spiders simply because they are more common and can be anywhere, any time any place. snakes tend to only be viewed by most people in tanks - they don't lurk in every corner (at least not in UK)
Spiders for me - I think it's the speed at which they move, and their unpredictability, although I do like watching them on TV. Snakes I have no problem with.
SPIDERS!!! I just cannot stand them. I am with you on snakes I would rathers be in a room with a spiiting croba than one of those horrible horrible black house spiders. I'll send my four year old around for you hes a dab hand at getting rid of them cause I wont allow them to be killed just in case they all come out for bloody revenge. what a rational response, ey!!!

I can't stand anything with more than 4 legs or less than 2 (except snakes).

Even snails, worms and caterpillars give me the heebie-jeebies

Snakes- deffinately. Along with crocs and aligators they should all be made into shoes, handbags and belts. Revolting things!

If I'm watching tv snakes are cute and cuddly and spiders are never nice. I'm not fobic though. BUT if I had to chose between a big spider and a big snake (Non scandinavian snake, we don't have any dangerous ones) I would definitely go for the spider. If I was in, say a pershop or zoo and was allowed to touch I would go for the snake again.

What I'm trying to say is that I like snakes but would be terrified if I was walking in Australia and met one...

Hope the above makes sense, I'm not even sure I understand it :0)

I agree with BOO that crocs snakes etc should be made into bags and shoes however living in a country that has spiders and snakes as much as i dislike snakes i am more afraid of spiders. Those rain spiders and button spiders and hairy harrys. yuk and they sit in doorways or just above your bed waiting to drop.
While I was travelling round Australia I was unlucky enough to encounter horrible species of both whilst fruitpicking. One thing I can assure you is, that it's possible to cope with opening a bag of bananas and seeing a coiled snake at the top, and just about bearable to have spiders lurking around around in the bunches. However if you open a bag up and a family of rats jump out and scurry down your back, that's when the screaming and heart attachs occur. Brrrrrr...
hi tali, its spiders with me too, although years ago someone gave me a tarantula (in a tank lol) to try to cure me. It was lovely (a chilean rose i believe it was called) I had it for weeks and was just getting used to it when I saw it shoot out from behind a branch and grab a cricket, I have never seen anything move as fast in my life and the very next day gave it away to a friend

Definitely SPIDERS for me!

I don't like snakes either, but they appear to move slower than spiders, so hopefully, I'd have more time to run away!

Spiders are horrible - definately something about the way they move -'cause the webspinning ones are OK it's the hunting ones that do it for me.

Stranglely I don't feel the same abuot scorpions and they're hunting aracnids too

Snakes are lovely almost cuddly I'd say

I'm not actually scared of either, but if I find a spider in the house, I leave it alone, in the house, its a friend, mind you, if I came face to face with a Tarantula, i'd break the world speed record.
definately spiders thier legs make my skin crawl
Iike it seems to be with most so far, with me its got to be spiders. but i think size has got a lot to do with it, nobody seems to mind those littie money spiders that hang down in front of their eyes but if they was as big as house or garden spiders or even bird-eating spiders, i recon they would give little miss muffet a run for her money. A harmless grass grass snake's not much to worry about, if you can identify it, but imagine a cobra ready to strike or a boa constrictor hanging down from a branch. What really makes my skin creep though are **** roaches. what earthly use are they ?
