Are there more biting insects about this year? I have a total of twelve bites on my legs, arms and face. Had to see the GP this morning, as one of them has become infected.

I don't normally get bitten so much.

Haven't noticed and I normally get bitten badly. ...

Too many early morning walks in the park, methinks.
Yes there are. There have been quite a few news and media articles about it. Not only are the mozzies bad this year, the horseflies are too. People have been warned to drain all standing water in their gardens and wherever else they can. I have been using Smidge this year which is the best I have found so far but I have still been bitten and had worse reactions than usual.
Question Author
Thanks, Woof. I'll have a google of Smidge. I knew about the horseflies being prevalent but didn't realise that other biting things were also in abundance.
I have noticed more midges and have been stung by a wasp for the first time since a child.

Aww! Sorry to hear about the sting, Prudie. Does it hurt?
Question Author
Sorry Rowan, only just seen you there. Maybe you have not been out and about so much this year, understandably so.
//I have a total of twelve bites//
You must be 'tasty' Tilly ;-)

It did hurt, I freaked as I was standing in some bushes and thought it was a spider. I don't react badly but it is still very itchy a week later.
Question Author
Seems so, Nails. Who'd a thought it?
Question Author
Prudie, if you will go standing in bushes...
Tilly, Avon Skin so Soft is supposed to be good for keeping bugs at bay
Question Author
I have some Skin so Soft, Margo. I applied it too late...after I'd been bitten. :-(

All the bites happened on Monday, in the park.

I agree, it's good stuff.
I'm always being bitten by something. A wasp sting went went badly wrong and I ended up in A&E with a very badly swollen arm, came out with arm in a sling and strong antibiotics
Question Author
Did it cause Cellulitis, Margo?
It was a long time ago but I don't remember that being mentione. It happened in Spain the day before coming home. A guy on the plane noticed it and gave me some antihistamines but they had no effect. The arm was huge, bright red and burning hot. Hospital said I was allergic to the sting - I've been petrified of wasps ever since
Question Author
I can understand that, Margo.
It wasn't til about four years ago that I began to react badly to bites, Tilly.....they'd become infected and were really painful....

Margo is right about Skin so Soft......I use it every day without fail after a shower and I have no bites this year......just a sting from a wasp which was my fault....x
Can't say I've noticed more than usual.

I know it's of no comfort, but my mum used to say they only go after sweet meat.

I don't even take sugar!
