Does Anybody know how to stop a dog racing in the woods to eat sticks at the first opportunity? It's a friends dog and he's out of ideas. The dog is now obsessed with chewing up wood and eating it. Mostly it goes straight through with his food, but sometimes he eats so much it comes out as just the wood. We've searched Google but can find little help so I'd be most grateful for any suggestions. Thank you.
my last dog ate a bit of a branch unbeknown to me - he was running around the back clutching at his mouth - I just put my hand in his mouth and retrieved a piece of the stick that was wedged between his teeth - that was awful.
Please try to discourage this chewing sticks can be very dangerous. My friends dog went off his food no idea why so she took him to the vet. He could not really say either but gave him injection and some pills to see if he would perk up. Took him back next day as his cheek was swollen and he helped when touched. The vet could not examine it right as dog was in so much pain. He was going to put the dog under next day to see what was going on. But that night it was an abscess and it burst she said awful smelling stuff came out. lo and behold in it was huge wood splinter it had been wedged in the dogs cheek. It was costly splinter to my friend and painful one to the dog..
