can anyone tell me how this rock (brick looking) base was formed millions of years ago
on stanidge edge Sheffield peak district

Its a kind of metamorphic rock
"fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low-grade regional metamorphism. "
The brick structure did not get underneath it, the boulder ( the top rock) fell onto it as some time. The boulder is a different rock type, possibly an igneous rock such as granite .
the boulder like the test of stanidge edge is grit stone (used for milling wheels ) looks like the underneath of this boulder is shale stone now ive delved into it just unusual that it looks man made in its formation here
