Dog With Poorly Paw

[Zacs-Master]

Zac has woken up and won’t put any weight on his front right paw. I’ve had a good feel around, manupulated his joints and toes and he hasn’t flinched or yelped. He’s now laid on his side keeping it up in the air. Vets doesn’t open till 9. Any ideas?

He’s 15. He’s now almost fallen asleep and is shaking with every breath.

Oh Zacs, that's upsetting. I have a 14 year old and he has arthritis and I thought that might be the cause of Zac's pain. If you phone your vet they will have an emergency number to call I would imagine.

A warm towel on the sore paw and keep him warm, take him to the vets once they open

He’s asleep now so will take him as soon as they’re open. He was fit as a fiddle yesterday but at his age I suppose anything can happen.

I’ve bathed his foot in a bucket of warm water.

I'm sorry, that must be a worry. Have you checked his pads, any chance he could have been stung or has a splinter?

Yes, prudie, I’ve had a good feel around. I did think maybe an allergic reaction to a sting which could also account for his shaking.

That's what I was wondering and would be a more good news reason. I know it's not the season but I've already seen several bees and wasps last couple of weeks. Good luck anyway, not too long to wait.

have you had a feel around his shoulder and elbow? If he won't put weight on his paw, it may be a problem higher up the leg

My Merlin was limping the other day, I found a lump of hard mud between his pads, causing him real grief!

Zac has some sort of cut/damage between his toes but the vet couldn’t find anything specific. He is on Metacam (which he’s been on to be a while), antibiotics and pain killers. He’s not looking good at the moment. Can hardly stand and still shaking. Hoping the antibiotics kick in quickly.
