My neighbour has recently got a cat approx 6 years old and wants to give it an occasional treat of liver, i checked on internet for her and found out that liver can be quite toxic for cats but is ok if given occasionally, so my question before she consults the vet is would it be better if the liver was cooked rather than given raw and how often would it be ok to give it, such as weekly or monthly

It's generally best to cook food before feeding it to cats. (In particular, most sources say that you should never feed them raw fish). I can't see that cooking liver could increase its (mild) toxicity to cats but it might help eliminate other potential risks.

Further, cooking the liver will add to its smell, which is really important to cats. My foursome quite like cold cooked chicken but they go totally mad for the hot stuff from Asda's rotisserie when I treat them with it.
