There are about a third of a million camels in Australia and they are prolific breeders. The problem is not only that they drink a lot of water. In their wanderings they also destroy crops and damage infrastructure. They were introduced to Oz in the 19th century to help with transport and construction but were turned loose when motorised vehicles became available.
