Ethnic But From Where?

Found a n interesting textile picture in charity shop & wonder if anyone can work out where its from. Its done with a reverse applique technique, tiny stitches around the reveals. The images are stylised snake fish lion & bird ( just guessing) all outlined in ecru but otherwise in wonderful bright red orange yellow purple green & blue. The shapes of colour reveal within the images are vertical or circular. I'm thinking Mexican
