Went into town this morning after a three week incarceration. First thing I noticed was the council out in force mowing verges etc, I wouldn't have thought this was essential work. If it is, then why doesn't the Department for Transport take advantage of the quiet roads and fill in some potholes, isn't that's more important than grass cutting?

If the grass gets too long then it becomes hard to manage.

TBF around my way, Ive never seen so many roadworks, local council obviously taking advantage of the quiet streets.

However, Ive seen parking wardens giving tickets out. Dont know why this would be essential work, especially as the roads are deserted? Suppose the council still have to try to make a bob or two even in these strange times...
because they are grass cutters and not road menders ?

I can certainly do one and not the other
There does seem to be a lot of general maintenance being done around here too, although in some of the parks they are mowing paths and letting the grass revert to meadow in between ... Brilliant as they seem to have added a few wildflower seeds to get things started
