Wild Boar
29 Answers
A couple of weeks ago a boar came routing around just outside our patio.
It was gathering mouthfuls of grass and taking it into the undergrowth. It did this for a couple of days then vanished. It was obviously nesting.
Today it appeared with four little humbugs. They are adorable. They stayed for about 15 minutes then were sent back to the bed!

The back 'garden/lawn' resembled the Somme trenches and a sow, with stripey babies at heel, stood stoically whilst I yelled and waved lights and them. I eventually contacted the local 'chausseurs' who sent dogs around and drew nothing. They had moved on. They can travel 30 km per night apparently. Phew!
Seriously, they can be very, very bad news and kill at least one person every year in France. Sorry to cast a damper. :(

In the New forest they let domestic pigs out to eat the acorns. People are warned to stay well clear. years ago when we first moved here a jogger accidentally got between the sow and her piglings and she chased him and bit a hole in his calf. I don't mind horses donkeys and cows but pigs I will not go near.

Sister has a holiday cottage in France right on the edge of a forest where they hunt them, and whenever they go after not being there for a while they have to 'tidy up' where the wild boar have been rooting round the outside areas. The locals warned them when they moved in not to interfere with them as they can be quite vicious.
People feeding them has caused problems, Sherr:
