Why?
Today our boy (neutered) was around a *** on heat. He literally "tried" non stop! entire day! Ran himself ragged!
Why? I mean his testes have been removed so surely there's no hormone left to fuel the urge?

So... if the *** had've allowed our boy to ...erm "proceed" wld he have calmed down after? surely if there is no semen there'd be no release of his frustration? I know this may seem off colour but it did get me thinking how he tried his luck all day!

Incidentally she was very adept at fending off his advances just as he was about to succeed...every time (to his frustration)

I don't know if he would have got any satisfaction, maybe one of our wiser dog owners would know.

People have decent sex lives after sterilization, so maybe it's a yes.

I have known a couple of neutered male dogs who could still perform and tie. Neither of them were mine. Its not so likely to happen nowadays as vets are aware of it, but it used to be a sign that testicular tissue has been left inside the dog which is dangerous as it can lead to cancer.

Needless to say ...said dog is now lain at my feet ... with his legs moving madly and sleepy, muffled woofing sounds ....he's having a pleasant dream atm....and I might know what about.! Lol

Yes they are still aroused by a female in season but of course are no longer fertile. However it is not sensible or fair to either to let him do it to her - he could injure himself or her if he does and she pulls away - any experienced breeder will steady the female so she cannot drag him round and cause injury to either. Also there is the risk of introducing infection into the female and to the dog as often after tying the boys equipment doesn't return to it's parking place straight away. Hope this is explained in a way that is easily understood if not in technical terms.

That, lankeela, is something I did not know (or ever think about). i.e. that a breeder "steadies" the female. And yes, I agree it hardly seemed fair to him, (who was frustrated clearly) nor her, (who spent the day running around avoiding his advances). We dog sat for the day for a friend. If this happens in the future, (unlikely but just in case) what is the best solution? separate them in separate rooms I guess?

PS and if we couldn't separate them would the boy have calmed down after he got erm "success"? Btw its not something we plan on repeating - it just has got me thinking is all. Normally we wouldn't dog sit for the day and if we occasionally do its rare (this is a first) that the girl would be on heat.

He would have a rest but once recovered he would start again as they know the female is only receptive for a short window of opportunity before taking his face off - unfortunately the boys just see this as playing hard to get! I would separate them but be ready for either to try to get to the other as the girls can be just as keen if they are spot on.

why? why not? when a geezer has the chop it doesn't mean he ain't interested even though he's firing blanks.

The male can mate her and tie for anything up to an hour or more - his manhood swells inside her and her muscles grip it so he can't get out until she is ready which is why it was always pointless chucking a bucket of water over dogs doing it in the street!

When "a geezer has the chop" it's only the spermatic chord which is cut, he still retains his testicles which in all other respects still function.

On the other hand you can try for hours to get a dog to mate a *** but if she is not exactly at the right time you can spend hours without success- as happened today with one of mine so going again tomorrow to the dog and again during next week in the hope she hasn't gone off the boil.
