It’s silly I know, but my pet hate is when I’m in a supermarket with a basket with 5 or 6 items in,and I joint the queue with just one person in front of me and they have a trolley with at least 2 weeks worth of shopping in! And they turn round and look at me, then instead of saying oh you go ahead, you’ve only got a couple of things, they then turn back and carry on unloading their 200 plus items!! Grrrrrr......
You??

why should they?
We have basket only checkouts. My pet hate people talking on their phone when being served in a shop etc.
I agree with woof. It's every man/woman for themselves in a supermarket.
For years I was the person with a couple of items but since lockdown I have managed to restrict my shopping trips to once a month on average, so now I'm the trolley half full person - and I always offer to let people go first if they only have one or two items - any more though and they take their place in line. On one occasion recently it backfired because there was a query on one of their items and it took three staff to go and sort it out by which time the queue in the next lane had gone through before me!
Smow, I always look at the person behind me and let them through if they have a little and I have a lot.

Me too TTT x
so you let them through with a few bits and by the time they've been served someone else has arrived with a few bits, you could be there for a while . . .
No it works like letting someone in a car out before you - you let one through then go yourself. Leave it to the next person to let the next one out!
With just a few items why not go to the self-service section?
Aldi/ Lidl don't have self-service. Usually I have only a few items and I'm grateful if someone flags me through but being retired I have all the time in the world so I don't mind waiting either.
My pet hate is when i'm in the supermarket with a trolley full of goods and there's someone behind me, with a couple of items in a basket, giving me the poo-eye because i don't invite them to be served before me.
Seriously, Smow, how do you know that the person ahead of you in the queue hasn't just done that to the person ahead of him/her?
i can never use the self service section, i screw up everytime i have tried. not so much a pet hate, but its the person who waits to get on the bus before stumbling around in their bag, person before finding their card, before it used to be fumbling for money, now buses only take cards. I do pity some tourists though who don't necessarily know that they only take a card.
Me too TTT. Well I did not long ago and I'm disabled. But to be honest I have deteriorated so much now that I can't do a large shop in a supermarket, because I can't push a trolley, load it, or unload it. If I get a small trolley, its as a walking aid and it's only for a few things!!
luckily i do my shop online, so no waiting around or fumbling people to catch you out....
But I wouldn't do it for people who show impatience and think you should allow them to go first. Usually men!!
And my pet hate is people who create litter.
Carers on their phone going into a patient. Cracks me up that.

Also when I actually stop to let another person onto the road - not getting orange blinkers to say Thank you.

Blimey, didn’t think it was such a touchy subject lol x
those who drop their damn masks on the pavement, perhaps they fall out of pockets but there's so many around our way, the cleaner must be fed up with it.
‘ why should they ‘ ? It’s nice to be nice .
