Officially the start of winter.

The dates aren't the same every year. I thought it was always the 21st of December, but it can vary year to year between the 21st and the 22nd. Have a look here

I can't wait, I am sick of cold weather and dark nights. Still, we will have to wait a while before we notice the difference.

I never realised it varied .My sisters birthday is on the 22nd and i remember her crying as a child because she thought her birthday was shorter than everybody elses what a dozy moo

December 21st is usually kept as the winter soltice and is the quarter day, but as said its sometimes on 22nd and the chart of dates seems to be two years its on 22nd and then a run of 21st, this year its 21st and I would always keep soltice on that day, and day light returns one minute but remember the saying 'As the days lengthen so doth the cold strengthen' 2006 and 2007 shortest day is 22nd. happy winter feast from this soltice pagan feast ? christmas was made into the festival
