No, pooch is safe. Only cloven hoofed animals such as cows, deer, sheep, goats etc are susceptible to infection.
Dogs are safe, true, but they should not be taken to the countryside for the time being. Dogs can carry the disease and as they roam and are in contact with the ground they can spread the disease. This extremely infectious strain of foot and mouth can be carried by anything, including the wind. What a catastrophe!
