He may also have a wee "whitehead" that has erupted and discharged the pus. My cat gets these all the time. The discharge looks a bit like cottage cheese (sorry to be revolting but it does). As soon as it discharges the lump disappears and she is fine. It might also be a tick that he has picked up outside - why not let the veterinary nurse at your practice have a look at it, just to be sure.
I wouldn't panick about a tiny hole with abit of sticky stuff coming out. I would give it a week or two and if it doesn't heal then ask the vet. Vets are so expensive and I always get the impression they like money more than animals. We get cuts and spots and don't run to the doctors every 5 minutes.
