Night Time Dog Howling
6 Answers
My daughters neighbours work night shifts. Their large dog howls all night long and can be heard through out the house. The dog is obviously anxious or upset all night, whilst my daughter loses sleep. The neighbours have been approached, and the situation kindly explained, but still the howling goes on. Are the next steps the council or animal welfare? This howling needs to stop.

Your own district (or unitary/metropolitan) council will probably have something similar on its own website.
It might also be worth contacting the RSPCA with your concerns about the dog's welfare:
0300 1234 999, 0700 to 2200 daily.
You could also suggest to your neighbours that they might try using a Pet Remedy diffuser to help calm the dog:

Ladybirder, it's still happening including during the daytime when the owner goes out. It's a very large dog, possibly a Dogue de Bordeaux, so you can imagine the loudness if uts howl. The neighbours have been spoken to again, even with a recording of the dog howling. We appreciate they have go to work on night shifts but the dogs anxiety takes precedent, as does my daughters right to rest and sleep. If nothing improves by Wednesday (to allow neighbours to to address the situation) the recording, and times taken of the dog howling, will be provided to the council and the RSPCA. Thank you for asking.
I despair sometimes and really wonder why some people have dogs if they are not going to put the time and effort into them !! This poor dog is lonely and bored and they haven't the decency to do anything about it. I wouldn't hesitate to contact the RSPCA and yes the Council will get in touch with them about noise nuisance which is affecting your daughter's sleep. Good luck.
Please do let us know what happens Rockape. I'm going to subscribe to this thread to make sure I don't miss it.
Have they had this dog from a pup? Has it ever been happy in its life I wonder. I do hope it gets rehomed with a family who will treat it properly. In the meantime get your daughter some Boots Muffles Wax Earplugs. If she can hear anything with those in then she's not got them in correctly. GOOD LUCK.
